Reykjavik part 1 missing text

Reykjavik is a tiny city by any normal standard, but after getting used to the Icelandic countryside, it was hectic and bustling. We stayed in a guesthouse our first night in town, and lived it up. We had fried ling and haddock with garlic potatoes and skyronnaise sauce at Icelandic Fish and Chips, a coffee at a cafe by the harbor, and found some really rocking whole grain bread at a bakery on a random residential street.

The city seems very fashionable and cosmopolitan, and reminded us both a bit of a very tiny Seattle, especially with views of water and mountains down narrow streets. There was lots of high quality graffiti, including lining the walls of some residential courtyards. My phone died before the best of these, so the pictures on Daria's camera will have to show the coolest pieces.

Somewhat surprisingly, one of the highlights of Reykjavik for me was the cathedral. It was very spare, and as we were looking around, a very talented Icelandic choir was practicing. The acoustics of the building were great, and Daria noticed that as you looked towards the altar, you could see out the line of windows across the fjord to the mountains. Nice design.
